The latest study to look at the long-term effects of Roundup, a popular weed killer developed by Monsanto in the 1970s, raises questions about the herbicide’s possible contributions to poor health in certain communities.
New research in the prestigious medical journal JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) reports on the startling evidence that glyphosate—the main ingredient in Monsanto’s weed-killer, Roundup—is not only getting into our bodies, but has been doing so at increasing levels for decades.
Levels of the herbicide glyphosate have soared in older Americans in 23 years, according to a study led by University of California researchers.
The study wasn’t designed to detect any potential harm from the increased exposure, but it will help with future studies to determine if any such link exists, said Paul J. Mills, a UCSD professor of family medicine and public health.
